Now available on all accounts is additional info about why a monitor shows downtime – for example was it a timeout, a 404 or 500 error etc. This info is collected when we scan your server and then included in alerts we send you but now is also available on the site – on monitor view pages and on the overview page you will see a little info icon
next to any downtimes listed there. You can mouseover this icon to see the error message and click it to see further info if available. Also on the monitor list page any time a monitor is down and shows the red error icon
you can also mouseover and click that icon for the error details.
Also now available for “big biz” type accounts are traceroutes which can be performed any time a server is found to be down – to enable this feature just check the “TraceRoute Snapshot?” box on the monitor create or edit form (only available on certain types of monitors such as ping). Traceroutes can then be viewed, as the following image shows, by clicking on the info icons as described above.

We hope all this additional monitoring data will help you diagnose server or network problems and ultimately enable you provide a more reliable service to your own users.
If you have any questions or suggestions – please let us know!

Another day another nifty feature added to ServerMojo!
Today we added dynamic status icons to go along with the page refresh. What this means is that a small icon appears next to the url in your browser and also in the tab (assuming you use a browser with tabs) where servermojo is open. So, when your server or monitor is online it will show a green icon
in the tab and when it goes offline it will change to a red icon
so you can see at a glance when any of your monitors change status while you are online without having to actually go to the servermojo page! Handy Harry!
The status icons show on individual monitor pages, the overview page and the monitor list page and the refresh interval depends on the scan interval you define for your monitors.
More niftyness to follow!

We just released a new sub-accounts feature (for premium accounts) which you will see when you login to your account.
Sub-accounts allow you to create read-only (for now) accounts for others such as employees or clients to use. They can login and view stats for monitors associated with that sub-account. Alerts can be sent to contacts from multiple sub-accounts so you can give multiple users access to alerts and stats for any monitor. In future we plan to add even more abilities to these sub-accounts.
As always we welcome feedback so let us know what you think about this new feature or any others in the new ServerMojo.

Following on from the recent roll-out of the shiny new ServerMojo v2, we have just added another new feature! Well its really an upgrade to an existing feature but either way its neat..
Alerts now include more information about the downtime we detected – for example did it timeout or was it a 500 ‘internal server error’ or a 404 or whatever else we came across when scanning your server or page. These more detailed alerts allow you to instantly make a more informed decision on what action (if any) needs to be taken to rectify the problem or reason for the alert.
We’ll also be adding some related functions soon to further increase the value of alerts and the diagnostic usefulness of ServerMojo.

It’s that time of year..
November 7th, 2008For a new blog post!
Yes it has been a rather low volume blog here at servermojo but we’ll try to post more often now…
We are actually working on a bunch of new features which will be revealed in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that.
Also you may (or may not!) have noticed that our scans have been faster/more reliable recently – we made some changes to improve the mechanism overall and fixed a couple of minor bugs.
We also updated the twitter alerts system not so long ago to use their api instead of the old IM/Jabber method which they seem to have given up on for now. It should be much more reliable now but let us know if you experience any problems with that.
Lastly – apologies to those of you who commented here before but didnt see your comments appear.. we sort of forgot to check the moderation queue and just found 153 comments waiting! Sadly 148 of those were spam.. but the few that were real should at least now be visible – better late than never!
